Shadowline Comics is an imprint from the highly successful Image Comics. The popularity of the highly successful publishing company, Image Comic’s has led the publishing company to create several imprints and Shadowline is one of those imprints.
Image Comics allows their writers complete control over their comic books in fact, Image was set up so that creators could do what they want with their creations, and reap the benefits financially. When a book is published by Image, creators are not paid up front. It can sometimes be two or three months before one sees money from a book. It sounds rough, and it most definitely can be. But if it’s done right, the payoff can be far more rewarding than producing a book in the conventional manner. This philosophy has led to the birth of all of the imprints under Image Comics.
Shadowline was established by Image co-founder Jim Valentino. The name is an homage to Valentino's character, ShadowHawk. Shadowline was established in 1992 and the first comic to sport the Shadowline Imprint was in 1994 with Shadowline Special #1. Since this time Shadowline has been continuously growing adding several more writers and comic books that detail different genres and styles.
Today, Shadowline not only publishes Jim Valentino's properties but also properties owned by other creators such as Jimmie Robinson, Ted McKeever, Jeff Mariotte, Mike Mayhhew, Steve Niles and Michael Cavallaro.
